H/9 Calculator
Definition – What is Hits per 9 Innings?
H/9 shows how many hits a pitcher has given up every nine innings. It is similar to ERA, but for hits instead of runs.
Formula – How to calculate H/9
H/9 = (Hits ÷ (Innings Pitched + (Outs (Partial Innings) Pitched ÷ 3))) x 9
Example
If a batter has allowed 190 hits over 202 innings and 1 out, then:
H/9 = (190 ÷ (202 + (1 / 3))) x 9 = (190 ÷ 202.333333) x 9 = 0.939 x 9 = 8.451
This pitcher’s H/9 is 8.451, or they average 8.451 hits against for every nine innings played.
