Volume of a Sphere

Method #1 – Volume from the radius

Calculator

Formula – How to calculate the volume of a sphere from the radius

Volume = (4/3) x π x Radius3

Example

A sphere has a radius of 10

Volume = (4/3) x π x 103

Volume = 1.333333 x 3.14159 x 1000

Volume = 4188.78

Method #2 – Volume from the surface area

Calculator

Formula – How to calculate the volume of a sphere from the surface area

Step 1: Convert surface area to radius

Radius = √(Area ÷ (4 x π))

Step 2: Convert radius to volume

Volume = (4/3) x π x Radius3

Example

A sphere has a surface area of 10

Radius = √(10 ÷ (4 x π))

Radius = √(10 ÷ (4 x 3.14159))

Radius = √(10 ÷ 12.56636)

Radius = √0.79577

Radius = 0.892059

Volume = (4/3) x π x 0.8920593

Volume = 1.333333 x 3.14159 x 0.70987

Volume = 2.9735

Method #3 – Volume from the diameter

Calculator

Formula – How to calculate the volume of a sphere from the diameter

Step 1: Convert diameter to radius

Radius = Diameter ÷ 2

Step 2: Convert radius to volume

Volume = (4/3) x π x Radius3

Example

A sphere has a diameter of 10

Radius = 10 ÷ 2 = 5

Volume = (4/3) x π x 53

Volume = 1.333333 x 3.14159 x 125

Volume = 523.59820

Method #4 – Volume from the circumference

Calculator

Formula – How to calculate the volume of a sphere from the circumference

Step 1: Calculate the Radius

Radius = Circumference ÷ π ÷ 2

Step 2: Calculate the Volume

Volume = (4/3) x π x Radius3

Example

A sphere has a circumference of 100

Radius = 100 ÷ π ÷ 2

Radius = 100 ÷ 3.14159 ÷ 2

Radius = 15.915508

Volume = (4/3) x π x 15.9155083

Volume = 1.333333 x 3.14159 x 4031.4522

Volume = 16886.88900
