Usage Rate is the number of possessions a player uses every 40 minutes of play.
Formula – How to calculate Usage Rate
Usage Rate = ( (Field Goal Attempts + (0.44 x Free Throw Attempts) + (o.33 x Assists) + Turnovers) x 40 x League Pace ) ÷ (Minutes Played x Team Pace)
Example
A player has 2867 minutes played, 1909 field goal attempts, 858 free throw attempts, 586 assists, and 387 turnovers. The league pace factor is 102.5 and the team pace factor is 97.8.
Usage Rate = ( (1909 + (0.44 x 858) + (0.33 x 586) + 387) x 40 x 102.5) ÷ (2867 x 97.8)
Usage Rate = ( (1909 + 377.52 + 193.38 + 387) x 40 x 102.5) ÷ 280392.6
Usage Rate = ( 2866.9 x 40 x 102.5 ) ÷ 280392.6
Usage Rate = 11754290 ÷ 280392.6
Usage Rate = 41.92
